Leader of opposition Lazarus Chakwera says President Peter Mutharika has failed miserably  on various issues during the five years of his presidency.

According to Chakwera, Mutharika has failed on the economy, development and governance.

Chakwera wrote on Facebook today that he was asked by Agence France-Presse (AFP) to discuss his presidential bid and rate Mutharika’s presidency over the five years.

“I look forward to sharing that exchange with you when it comes out. But for now, let me at least share with you what I said when they asked me to assess Mutharika’s presidency over the past 5 years.

“On democracy, Mutharika has been average. On economics, Mutharika has been below average. On development, Mutharika has been poor. On governance, Mutharika has been a disaster,” said Chakwera

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president however said Malawi is ripe and ready for the transformation he will bring if elected the country’s president in the 2014 election.

In the presidential race, Chakwera will face competition from Mutharika, Vice President Saulos Chilima of UTM and former President Joyce Banda of People’s Party.

Chakwera is promising to build a new Malawi by using a five point plan of national development consisting of servant leadership, prospering together, ending corruption, rule of law and national unity.

During rallies, Chakwera touts his high five plan saying it will help create a fairer society and steer Malawi towards a path first envisaged by later president Ngwazi Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
