After losing UTM primaries in Mzuzu City constituency, parliamentary aspirant Justice Luwani Chimaliro has dumped the party to join People’s Party (PP).

Chimaliro lost to incumbent Member of Parliament Leonard Njikho.

He told Malawi24 that he sees no democracy in UTM hence his decision to join the former ruling PP.

“I don’t see the future of UTM and there is a lot happening in the party that’s why I feel to join the party with democratic mandate that’s PP,” he said.

Chimaliro is a prominent businessman based in the city of Mzuzu.

PP is yet to hold primaries in the city but plans are underway to hold primaries before end January.

Mzuzu City deputy mayor Alexander Mwakikunga, another UTM member who earlier expressed interest to contest in the UTM primaries but later withdrew, said he will stand as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2019 elections.
