Man commits suicide due to lack of tuition

A 24-year-old man identified as Tamandani Mfutso died on Sunday after hanging himself to the roof of his house in Mangochi.

Mfutso who was working as a Community Health Worker at St Martin Mission Hospital committed the suicide at Chindamba village in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in the district.

Mangochi Publicist Amina Tepano Daudi said Mfutso hailed from Kasina village in the area of Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza and was working with Bella NGO at the health centre.

According to Daudi, few months ago Mfutso was selected to pursue his studies at St. Joseph college of Nursing and was advised to report at the college for classes on January 7, 2019.

“Due to financial constraints, he approached most of his relatives for assistance but none showed interest in assisting him financially,” she explained

On Sunday Mfutso committed suicide and left a suicide note on the table in which he expressed his disappointment with his family for failing to assist him.

The matter was therefore reported at Mangochi Police Station who visited the scene of incident and postmortem conducted at Mangochi district hospital revealed that he died due to suffocation.

Meanwhile, the Police in the district are appealing to the general public to seek for other alternatives of solving problems than committing to suicide.
