Police assures of security during campaign period

Mchinji police station has assured people in the district of maximum security during the forthcoming tripartite elections.

We will continue to maintain peace and order – Maganga (L)

This has been said by Mchinji police station officer in charge, deputy commissioner of police, DCP Owen Maganga following fears people have about the elections.

Maganga said people should stop fearing as they have already set aside procedures on how they will secure them before, during and after elections.

“Be assured that we are and will be there for you all the times giving you tight security as we are already on the ground since we are working with community policing forums which are in all traditional authorities,” said Maganga.

He added that people should trust that the police will provide security as Mchinji Police has been the best police station in giving security to its people in two consecutive, 2017 and 2018.

Maganga further urged people to be on the forefront to tip them of any suspicious people who can be there to cause breach of peace to others.

“You have to know that we are your friends and we are supposed to work hand in hand with you in issues of security in the district,” said Maganga.

He then advised political parties in the district to avoid indulging themselves in issues that may lead to quarrels ahead of the forthcoming elections.

He said political parties should make sure to use all the information they get during multiparty liason committee so that there should be peace throughout this period.

Some people in Mchinji said they will not be attending campaigns meetings fearing for their lives as a lot of things are being said about this year’s elections.

One of the people Alinafe Bamusi said she will not attend any campaign meeting fearing that something bad will happen to her.

“I have witnessed three elections, but I have not heard or seen what is happening this time around and fearing for my life I have chosen not to go to any campaign meeting,” said Bamusi.
