Two nabbed over cannabis

Police in Dedza district have arrested two men for being found with cannabis sativa locally known as chamba.

This is according to Dedza police deputy public relations officer, Constable Cassim Manda who said the two wanted to smuggle the illegal drug to Mozambique using unchartered route.

Constable Manda has identified the two as Fungai Barai aged 32 years who is a Mozambican national and Mafosha Banda, 35 from Matunduluzi village in the area of Traditional Authority Kawamba in Kasungu district.

He said the two suspects were arrested at Sukwasukwa by police officers who were on patrol duties.

As the police officers were patrolling the area, they saw a motor vehicle registration number NU 676 parked along the dust road and when they searched the vehicle they found a bag of cannabis.

Upon inquiring about the bag, it’s when they realized that it contained the stuff and the two suspects were arrested on the spot.

The two suspects will soon appear before court to answer the charge of being found in possession of cannabis sativa as stipulated in section 4 sub section (a) as read with regulation 19 sub section 1 of the dangerous drug act.
