Musician Penjani Fredokiss Kalua will contest in Blantyre City South Constituency in the 2019 elections but he has vehemently denied switching to politics.

The top billed musician’s interest to vie for the role is much to satisfaction of his followers. While his fans think that he has joined active politics, Fredokiss has other thoughts.

In an interview with Malawi24 this morning, Kalua who will contest on an independent ticket said people should not mistake vying for a strategic position as a legislator to political involvement.

“I am not joining politics but I am just targeting the parliamentary seat. I belong to a school of thought which is free from this fashion of joining politics if one is to make a change in a society,” said Kalua.

He also expressed concern over the way Malawians associate making change with names and titles. This, he argued, has allowed people to trust crooks with important roles.

The Ghetto King Kong as Fredokiss is fondly known, considers himself bigger than any politician. He therefore maintains that status by virtue of distancing himself from politics.

The son of veteran politician Kamlepo Kalua will be in the race for the seat as an independent candidate. His humanitarian efforts which earned him recognition at last year’s UMP Awards, are enough morale boosters ahead of the polls.
