President of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) has beaten President Peter Mutharika, Leader of Opposition Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima ahead of the 2019 elections.

Mbakuwaku leader Peter Dominico Sinosi Driver Kuwani has become the first presidential candidate to pay his nomination fees.

Kuwani paid the K2 million nomination fees on Friday in Blantyre at FDH Bank.
Meanwhile, the MMD presidential candidate is looking for a runningmate.

Kuwani placed an advert in a local newspaper last week calling for members of the general public to apply for position of vice president of the movement.

According to the advert, following Kuwani’s win at the party’s National Elective Conferencr in December, article 33 paragraphs 1 to 4 of MMD’s constitution allows Kuwani to call for applications from Malawians on the position of vice president. The successful candidate will become the party’s runningmate in the 2019 tripartite elections.

Among other qualities, Kuwani wants a vice president who should demonstrate financial independence, a workaholic, a powerful public speaker and a person free from conviction of corruption, fraud or illicit dealings.

In 2016 Kuwani lost parliamentary by-electios in Mchinji West constituency after contesting on an independent ticket.

He told the local media last year that if elected president he will fight corruption, end nepotism and create a government that will provide equal opportunities for all people.
