Man nabbed for raping stepdaughter

Malawi

Police in Kasungu have arrested a 28-year-old man for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

Kasungu police public relations officer Harry Namwaza identified the suspect as Lekani Mwambi who sexually abused the Standard 7 learner last week in a bush.

According to Namwaza, the girl lives with her mother and the stepfather at Nkhamenya trading centre but during the holiday she went to visit her grandmother.

“Last week the suspect went to Chisemphere to pick up the victim as the holiday was almost over. The suspect carried the victim on the bicycle carrier on the way back.

“On their way back, the suspect used unchartered route without the victim knowing about his heinous intention. Upon arrival at a certain bushy area the suspect grabbed the victim and defiled her,” Namwaza said.

At home, the girl told her aunt who reported the matter to police.

“Police issued a medical report to the victim to go to the hospital for examination whose results will be tendered in evidence when the suspect appears before court,” said Namwaza.

Lekani Mwambi comes from Mphezu village in the area of traditional authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo district.
