Urban Music People (UMP) Awards organising team has explained the absence of an international headliner at this year`s occasion.

The event is slated for 29th December at Robins Park in Blantyre.

Entertainment loving Malawians have been eager to learn as to which international act will spice up the stage this year, as per custom.

In an interview with Malawi24 last week, UMP`s Programme Coordinator Wisdom Phanga said the international artist will perform at the UMP Festival mid next year.

“The international artist will perform at the UMP Festival mid next year. This year is all about music performances and awards considering that we separated the two events last year,” said Phanga.

He added that people should expect a unique experience at their forthcoming event, as inspired by new awards` slots like humanitarian honour, and a hot line up of performers.

In the two previous years, UMP events attracted top notch international musicians, Gemini Major in 2016, and Emtee in 2017.

In an effort to make the phenomenon more international, UMP also recognises musicians in the SADC region, in a category which was introduced in the last episode. South Africa`s Cassper Nyovest won the maiden honour in the slot.
