UTM aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for Chitipa Central Dr Moses Mlenga on Saturday donated cement to Isharikira Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambya.
Mlenga gave the school MK100,000 to buy timber for renovation of school blocks and donated seven bags of cement for construction of a new block. The items and cash are worth about K280,000.
Mlenga said it pains him a lot being a University Lecture seeing primary school learners learning under the tree as is the case with Isharikira learners.
“Having poor standard infrastructures in primary schools up to date is testimony that as a nation we are not moving forward, there is no motivation to children, how can they prosper whilst learning under the sun? That’s why I thought it wise today to donate bags of cement that will go towards construction of a school block,” said Mlenga.
He then asked people in Chitipa Central to rally behind Vice President Saulos Chilima, who is also UTM leader, saying he is the only presidential candidate who has great desire to transform this nation.
Vice Chairman for the school committee, Shummeti Chihana applauded Mlenga for the initiative saying once the schoolblock is completed it will end current predicament at the school where some learners are learn under the sun.
“It is of great honour for a Shadow MP to be doing such kind of developments, it is our hope that recent challenges will come to an end now, it has been difficult for learners to attend classes because of lack of enough classes, and it comes even more difficult during rainy season,” said Chihana.
Mlenga also gave the school two balls for football and one for netball as one way of aspiring children at the school.
On 4th September this year, Mlenga also donated twenty bags of cement to Yamba Community Day Secondary School for the completion of a hall at the school.
