A 10-year-old girl has died after being hit by a motor vehicle in Kasungu district.
The accident occurred at Bua Trading Centre near Kanganjobvu Primary School along Kasungu- Lilongwe M1 road at around 8am over the weekend. 
Police have identified the girl as Katelina Wilson aged 10.
Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Harry Namwaza said Chinese national Dai Yu Tao, aged 46, was driving a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin registration number KA8687 from the direction of Kasungu towards Lilongwe.
Upon arrival at Bua Trading Centre near Kanganjobvu Primary School along the Kasungu -Lilongwe M1 road, Yu Tao hit Katelina who was crossing the road.
“Following the impact, the girl died on the spot due to severe head injuries,” he explained
The girl hailed from Chipwika Village, Traditional Authority Njombwa in Kasungu District.
Police have since advised drivers to drive carefully and avoid speeding to avoid reoccurrence of such incidents.
