Malawi Vice President, Saulos Chilima, says he is not shaken and afraid of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party which is demanding that he quits as the country’s vice president.

Chilima, who is the founding president of UTM (formally called United Transformation Movement), has said he can only quit if DPP garners the signatory of one million five hundred thousand electorates who ushered him into office in May 2014.

Chilima said he toiled to bring back DPP into government in 2014. He bashed those who are castigating him on state broadcaster, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

“DPP wants me to quit as vice president because they have forgotten the role I played in bringing back theiur party to power in 2014. I will not quit unless they successfully track-down each and every person who voted for me as running mate in 2014.” he said during a UTM political rally in Nkhotakota

Chilima stated that he is being castigated because he is fighting against blind-worshiping of politicians and abuse of public funds which he said was rampant in the current administration. He promised that despite coming under heavy fire from the ruling DPP, he will not tone down his ire on people looting public funds.

“Umuyamika ndi mulungu, anthu ena tonse timagwira ntchito limodzi, kumagwiritsa ntchito ndalama zamisonkho. Ife sitikutukwana (I will not worship any human being except God and I do not fear any human being misusing taxpayers’ money just to castigate their opponents)” he said while urging his followers from castigating others.

Chilima also promised to provide piped water for Nkhotakota when he wins in 2019.
