Nyasa Big Bullets have one hand on the TNM Super League trophy after a classy performance saw them beat relegation threatened TN Stars to open up a nine-point lead over second placed Silver Strikers.

Lanjesi was named man of the match

The runaway league leaders got their opening goal on 15th minute through Chiukepo Msowoya who scored his 14th goal of the season after heading past Clifford Jekapu from a Dalitso Sailesi’s cross.

The visitors were struggling to match Bullets’ pace especially in the midfield where Chimango Kayira and Nelson Kangunje were operating, giving no space to Trouble Banda.

The hosts doubled their lead through Kangunje following brilliant exchange of passes between Sailesi, MacPhallen Mgwira and Kayira to send the stadium into massive celebrations.

TN Stars’ only realistic goal scoring opportunity came through China Chirwa who failed to make a cool finish after he was found unmarked in the box by Stain Dave.

In the second half, the visitors were the better side as they bossed the midfield, forcing Bullets to drop off at the back as Dave and Chirwa were causing havoc inside the hosts’ half.

A mistake from Ernest Kakhobwe saw Dave failing to capitalize when the former Azam Tigers goalkeeper left his line of duty only to misjudge the ball before being saved by the outstanding John Lanjesi.

Bullets then brought in Fischer Kondowe for Mgwira while Dave Mshini was also introduced by the visitors.

Another goal scoring opportunity was missed by Dave who headed wide with the goalkeeper already beaten to disappoint his coach Meke Mwase.

Bullets coach Callisto Pasuwa introduced Mussa Manyenje and Mike Mkwate for Patrick Phiri and Kangunje.

The substitutions brought some rhythm into Bullets’ midfield and they almost buried the game when Kondowe was denied by Jekapu in unbelievable circumstance.

Bullets created another great scoring chance when Kondowe’s cross found Msowoya into the box only to force Jekapu into action with a brilliant save.

In the 86th minute, the visitors’ keeper was at his best yet again, this time denying Mkwate’s powerfully struck 16-yard volley with acrobatic save for a corner.

The rookies tried their level best to at least reduce the arrears towards the end of the match but Bullets stood firm to collect maximum points and extend their unbeaten record to 25 games.

The result takes the champions-elect to 61 points with two games in hand over the Central Bankers who have 58 points from 27 games.

As for TN Stars, the defeat is a set back in their pursuit of escaping the relegation as they are now stuck in the box with four games to play.

The Kasungu based side are on 14th position with 30 points from the said number of games and they are yet to win away from home.
