Police at Kanengo in Lilongwe are hunting for a young man known as Kondwani Gomba for murdering his stepmother at Ngomani village in the district.
The woman, Rhoda Jolamu aged 26 who hailed village Mphika, Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje, married Kondwani Goba’s father two years ago and the two have a 4 months baby.
Kanengo police spokesperson Esther Mkwanda said Kondwani who lives in Mozambique paid the family a visit. 
However, on Monday night while his father had gone out, he hit his stepmother with a hoe as she was sleeping.
The suspect escaped soon after the act and neighbors found the mother dead when they went into the house after hearing the baby crying.
Post-mortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital confirmed that death was due to severe head injuries.
Meanwhile, police are urging members of the public to assist the law enforcers with any information that will lead to the arrest of Kondwani Gomba.
