Mutharika tells Malawians to pray for rains

President Peter Mutharika has urged people in the country to pray for good rains in the 2018/19 rainy season.

According to a statement released yesterday signed by Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara, the president wants churches and individuals to pray for good rains and a disaster-free rainfall season.

“President Mutharika is calling on all Malawians and people of goodwill living in Malawi to dedicate prayers for good rains and a disaster free 2018/19 rainy season in respective Mosques, Churches and prayer houses from 26th to 28th October, 2018,” says the statement.

Mutharika has since called on senior government officials and cabinet ministers to join the prayers in their respective churches.

The rainy season in Malawi begins in October and ends in April. The season is characterised by distasters such as floods which destroy crops, property and people’s lives.

Currently, 3.3 million people in Malawi are starving due to among other reasons disasters that occured during the last rainfall season.
