Umodzi Party president professor John Chisi says the Chilima Movement is driven by greed and is not a threat to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Speaking in an interview, said the movement does not have the welfare of Malawians at heart.
“On Vice President Saulos Chilima let me say without fear or favor, he is just greedy. I can assure Malawians that his interests are not for the good of this country. He has been a DPP member and a vice president, now vice president salary is not enough for him he wants to be the president.
“These are signs of greed, Malawians should know that l as Chisi there is no way l can support Chilima. He is acting against the person who made him vice president, what kind of human being is he,” said Chisi.
Chisi who has been a major critic of how Malawians conduct their politics said time has come for Malawians to be wise enough when choosing leaders during the forthcoming tripartite elections.
On coalitions, Chisi said his party will not go into an alliance with another party since coalitions have never been fruitful in Malawi.
“Coalitions are nothing because they yield no good results, even the like of Gwanda Chakuamba once tried. Do you remember Tisinthe Alliance and Mgwirizano Alliance? What did those alliances achieve? My party will contest alone and doesn’t need help from any political party, Umodzi will remain Umodzi.
“If Malawians want Umodzi they will vote for my party, l promise them that we will change the face of Malawi, but if they want to remain in darkness they will not vote for Umodzi,” he said.
The Chilima Movement comprises notable people on the political scene such as Bon Kalindo, Patricia Kaliati and Callista Muthalika who is former first lady and sister in law to President Peter Mutharika.
In response to Chisi’s accusations, Kalindo said their interest is to make sure youthful Chilima becomes president in 2019 and not to be engaged in verbal fights.
“There is no need of labelling us greedy because our intentions are for the good interest of poor Malawians, We are not against anyone we are just trying to save Malawi.
“There are some people who don’t wish this country well and unfortunately those people are in power so we want to change that,” said Kalindo.
The Chilima Movement is now gaining popularity in the country with some political commentators crediting Chilima as mature and the future of good politics in the country.

In the mmorning he woke up with his crew to campaign for his umozi party which had the blue colour simiilar to that of DPP. That time i was driving my Toyota Collora with a DPP flag. Where ever he was driving, i was following him behind but nobody was recognising his Umodzi party but the DPP. Now he knows better that nothing he can do on his own to advance his political mirage rather than joining DPP. Sorry Hon Chisi.. The DPP is not the way it was. Malawi politics have dramatically changed. People voted DPP not because they knew or wanted Peter Mtharika but it was just because of munthu akoma akamwalira syndrome which Malawians have. People noticed how good Bingu was when he died. They wanted someone with a fathers heart like him to save this country from the kwacha devaluation that Joyce Banda introduced which up to now is affecting Malawians negatively. To the contrally, Peter is far different to Bingu and people knows this. Had it been you hon Chisi is better figure to deliver in this country, You would have made to be a mare MP in your consituency. You can not level yourself with Hon SK Chilima. In Malawi we don’t want your papers from America or Europe. Those qualifications are not for Malawi problems. You better go and find job where you got the papers. Useless Professor, instead of speaking for his party why is he busy to speak on behalf of DPP? So since Chilima is the Vice President then he must not answer the call of the people? Who is Mutharika? Is he Chilima’s biological Father or just a senior colleague in political arena,? Why among all the opposition figures in Malawi only him useless professor is the one that gets airtime from MBC? What does that tell Malawians?

Rt Hon Chilima was never welcomed in DPP. They simply wanted to use him. He brought in the youth perspective and votes and whatever manner they wanted to use him. After that tthey dumped him. He was pushed to the periphery of dpp. A very ruthless establishment.
We have all seen him at party meetings where he is not even allowed to say anything. Not even to invite the Predident to speak. What did you expect him to do. If it was me i could have left dpp a long time ago after only 6 months in office. We do not go into office just for the nomenclature and ceremony…Hon Chilima wanted yo serve. But he was not given the opportunity to do so
He has no position in the NGC! And no substantive ministerial position. What did you expect him to do?Imagine! I would have done exactly what Chilima has done. Infact i could have done worse.
Instead of accusing Chilima you should be blaming DPP. For me the question is why has Chilima been quiet all this time? And why is he still not mounting an aggressive and robust campain to unseat the dpp and his boss. If you ask me he has what it takes, the following and sympathy vote among most people esp tthe youths.
My prediction is that come 2019 Chilima will be the President of Malawi. Just watch!
