Self-acclaimed president of the republic of Thyolo and Mulanje Vincent Wandale has now been granted bail.

Wandale was arrested in October, hours after a failed official inauguration of the said republic.

Among other counts, he was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

He was however committed to Zomba Mental Hospital after doctors recommended that he should undergo mental rehabilitation.

Wandale challenged the decision to send him to the mental hospital saying he is a person of sound mind.

Following his application, the Zomba magistrate court on Monday granted bail to Wandale.

He maintains that Thyolo and Mulanje are no longer part of Malawi, something government rejects.

Among other things, Wandale who was serving as District Agriculture Officer for Lilongwe says the Malawi government has failed to listen to the people of the two districts on matters of land.

The PLO leader wonders why government was coy on their calls to oversee an equal sharing of land with tea estate owners who the residents also accuse of exploitation.

It was however reported Wandale had been sponsored by ‘unknown operatives ‘ to ‘fight for the land rights of locals in the two districts’.

  1. Granted bail? I thought he was in a mental hospital? Hospitals grant bail? Shouldn’t it rather be discharged?

    1. If they say granted bail that means he has been released.. We cud have use discharged if it was hospital thing kkkk I know u know it already

    3. He was remanded. And while in prison was sent for mental treatment at Zomba Mental Hospital. The best word that fits is “release”: which means out of prison and hospital as well.
