Multichoice Malawi has refuted claims that the prestigious reality TV show dubbed Big Brother Africa (BBA) has been replaced by Nigeria’s version called Big Brother Naija.

The four year recess of BBA production has forced the reality TV show’s followers to find a substitute in BBNaija.

This follows lack of an overt return sign for the continental TV show.

In an interview with Malawi24 on Monday, Multichoice Malawi sales and marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said BBNaija is not a substitute for BBA.

Nyirenda: BBNaija is not a replacement for BBA.

“BBNaija is not a replacement for BBA, it is only for one country, which is not representative of the whole continent,” said Nyirenda

He added that Multichoice will make communication regarding the continental TV phenomenon’s return whenever they will be privy to information on the matter.

“Multichoice will send out a statement on BBA should there be a word on the show. For the moment, BBA is still on hold.”

There are varying speculations from the vast audience regarding Africa’s top reality TV show. The most dominant belief is that the production company, Endemol, has lost interest hence BBA expectations should be laid to rest.

Big Brother Africa has happened for a record of nine times with the last edition in 2014. Malawi was among the participating countries in all editions, as such the show had a handsome number of followers in the country.

Malawi has never won the competition despite coming closer to glory in 2008 when Hazel Warren finished second behind Angola’s Rico.
Some of the Malawian representatives since the genesis of the reality TV show are Zain, Code Sangala, Hazel Warren, Mzamose Chibambo, Lomwe, Watipaso and Nafe Kulemeka, Sipe, and Mr 265.
