Chakwera has called for a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee.

“I, in my capacity as President of the Party, would like to invite you to a National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting to be held on Sunday, 28th January, 2018 at the Malawi Congress Party National Headquarters from 1:00 pm,” reads the leaked memorandum dated January 18.

Chakwera however did not reveal reasons for the NEC meeting saying the aim of the meeting will be known on the same day.

“The Agenda for the meeting will be circulated at the meeting,” adds the memorandum.

There have been infightings in the MCP over the past few weeks.

Recently, the party’s Vice President Richard Msowoya and Secretary General Gustave Kaliwo accused Chakwera of hypocrisy.

Kaliwo and Msowoya together with Mcdonald Lombola who is 2nd Vice President, Treasure General Tony Kandiero and Deputy Secretary General James Kaunda wrote a letter saying Chakwera is acting against his own word of bringing unity in MCP and abiding by the party constitution.

Reacting to the claims, Members of Parliament of the party backed Chakwera saying that he never flouted the party constitution.

The MPs also called for the suspension of Kaliwo accusing him of failing to discharge his duties since he took office in 2013.

Amid all this, Sidik Mia last week announced his intention to contest for the position of MCP vice president.

He also said he would be happy to be chosen as Chakwera’s runningmate in the 2019 elections.
