Member of Parliament (MP) for Mulanje West Patricia Kaliati has reiterated that she is still a member of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) despite not attending the party’s rallies.
Kaliati who was sacked as Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development said she is busy promoting and developing her constituency.
“I am a strong DPP member and I will not change. Being not spotted at parties rally doesn’t mean am not active, only that am busy with things at my constituency promoting men and women,” she said.
She added that the fact that she was sacked from cabinet does not mean that she left the party.
“Am a teacher by profession and most of my time I teach people on how they can change their lives, being left out of cabinet doesn’t mean that am out of the party no and am more stronger as usual,” said Kaliati.
She also revealed that come 2019 she will stand as Member of Parliament for Mulanje West, refuting rumours that she will not seek reelection.
“Let me tell those who wish me not to stand as an MP come 2019 that I will stand as member of Parliament for Mulanje West on DPP ticket, the party that I will never change forever,” said Kaliati.
President Peter Mutharika fired Patricia Kaliati as Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development in April, 2017 and replaced her with Cecilia Chazama.
The ministry is now headed by Grace Chiumia.
