Uladi no show in court

Uladi Mussa

Politician Uladi Mussa failed to appear in court yesterday when hearing of his corruption case was supposed to continue.

Mussa who is Salima South parliamentarian is answering a case in which he is alleged to have granted citizenship to illegal immigrants from Burundi¸ Rwanda and other nations when he served as a Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security in the Joyce Banda regime.

Mussa was not available in court.

He is suspected to have pocketed millions of Kwacha from the said illegal immigrants.

Mussa is accused of abusing office to grant citizenship to foreigners who had not qualified for the citizenship in line with Malawi’s laws.

Trial was supposed to continue on Thursday in Lilongwe but he was not available in court.

His lawyer Paul Maulidi told the court that his client could not travel to Lilongwe because he was attending the funeral of a relation, Mufti Abbas Qassim.

Prosecutor Kamudoni Nyasulu said the court had accepted the request by Maulidi that the case be adjourned to Friday, 12 January 2018.
