As Malawians lack electricity power, cement has become a commodity that citizens are lacking due to its scarcity on the local market.

Cement
Govt has warned traders for overcharging the price of cement.

The scarcity of the cement has seen some traders overcharging the price of a bag weighing 50 kilograms.

Reports reveal a bag is now being sold at K10,000 from the ranges of K6000 – K6500 as the demand of the comodity is high on the market.

Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has since warned traders for overcharging the price of cement on the market.

Principal secretary for the ministry Joseph Mkandawire has disclosed that those found over charging are to face the law.

Mkandawire added that government is monitoring the situation.

  3. How can a government intervene on someone’s business, why can’t they focus on bring back the electricity? No one can allow to give things free even you Mr government , when you are doing business m you expect win not loss . So if the supply is low, the demand is becoming higher hence the price of the commodity will also rise . Theirs no one to put a finger on, put all blame to yourself Mr government and your crew fr impplementing blackout in the country, you better sort out your mess so the electricity can come back and allow the companies to start their business of making adequate cement which can be supplied the whole country. It’s your time vendors to make money , go on until the government will ring the bell fr coming with better solutions.

    1. I second you. It only means the traders source the cement from Zambia and Mocambique therefore incurring more costs. You cant expect to find it at the same retail price. What govt has to do is deal with the root cause. Power generation for the industry. Magetsi basi. Dont punish the one importing it.

    2. The gvt should temporarily lift the restriction on cement importation to enable more importations . Osati kungoopseza kuti tithana ndi okweza mitengo
