Three people died while several others escaped with injuries in a road accident which occurred near HMS food company along Limbe-Bvumbwe road in Chigumula township in Blantyre.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Station Widson Nhlane, the accident occurred after left tyre of the vehicle which was being driven by Doreen Sosomola aged 29 got burst thereby making the driver to lose control.
He said the vehicle therefore swerved to the offside verge where it overturned.
“We can confirm that the Minbus registration number MHG 3708 Nissan Caravan which was being driven by Doreen Sosomola was involved in accident as she was coming from Bvumbwe direction heading Limbe with 16 passengers on board,” he explained.
The injured passengers were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where three were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Other three people were treated as out-patients except the driver who is stil at the said hospital.
However, police investigations are under way to establish the cause of the accident .
Meanwhile, members of the community whose relatives are missing have been asked to consult Limbe Police station or visit the mortuary to identify their relatives at the said hospital as they have not yet been identified by the police.
The driver hails from Ndandala village in Traditional Authority Chikweu in Machinga district.
