The arrival of eight new players in the mid-season transfer window has had an instant impact on Dwangwa United’s season.

Dwangwa were among the relegation candidates at the end of the Tnm super league first round having finished in the bottom three alongside Blantyre and Chitipa United.

Like the other two teams, Dwangwa managed only 11 points in the entire round.

In week 13 of the season, the team shipped 9 goals from Lilongwe following heavy defeats to Silver Strikers and Civil Sporting Club.

But come the second round, the lakeshore outfit has made tremendous progress which saw them climb out of the drop zone last week, for the first time in over two months.

Contrary to the 11 points bagged in 15 first round outings, the  Lloyd  Nkhwazi led side  has already collected 14 points in its first 7 fixtures of the final round.

They have won four matches against Blantyre United, Chitipa, Premier Bet Wizards and lately Red lions.

Two draws have come against Silver Strikers and Azam Tigers with the only defeat coming on the road to Mzuni fc.

That has catapulted the team into 11th position with 25 points, five clear of the drop zone.

Dwangwa have turned the Chitowe stadium into a fortress by collecting 10 points and remain unbeaten at home in the league this round.

That according to Team Manager Dave Mwandira is a direct reward of their mid-season transfer business, stretching from 20 August to September 19, in which they brought in eight new faces.

The eight are Enock Likoswe, Wilson Magombo, Mayamiko Mponda, Kondwani Banda, Yamikani Tambala, Steve Saka, Kumbukani Botha and Chisomo Kondwani.

“In the first round we noted that we were weak in defence and upfront, so we invaded the market to beef up those areas which has so far paid off. Most of the new faces have in no time become regulars and made an instant impact. That’s why the team is rising up the table,” said Mwandira.

The team manager also lauded the performance of their national under 20 goalkeeper Charles Thom.

On their quest for survival Mwandira added: “The players know our mission, so  we just have to keep the momentum going, keep playing well and who knows, we might even end up in the  top 8.”

Dwangwa’s next league outing is against 14th placed Masters Security fc at the Dedza Stadium on Sunday.
