25 defectors from DPP and PP joins MCP.

Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has welcomed 25 defectors from ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and People’s Party (PP) in Salima North West Constituency.

Among the 25, 15 are DPP and 10 are from PP. Speaking at the football bonanza on Sunday, one of the defectors Veretina Fuma from DPP said they want to work with MCP to help it in readiness of 2019 polls.

“I have been with DPP since the time we started campaigning for President Peter Mutharika as a presidential candidate, but the party seems to have lost direction, people no longer trust its leadership,” said Fuma.

But DPP officials have cast doubt if the defectors are genuine members of the party.

MCP’s lakeshore regional committee representative Frank Mwawa said they look foward to have more people as they return to the mother party in the country.

Concurring with Mwawa, Member of Parliament for the constituency Jessie Kabwila said MCP is set to take Malawi out of the challenges that have rocked the country.
