Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa has said the blood sucking issue in some districts of southern Malawi is affecting education.

Ngongoliwa made the remarks when President Peter Mutharika toured Mulanje district to hear from community members on how the incident is happening.

In his remarks, Ngolongoliwa said that because of fear school going children are having sleepless nights that are putting them at risk of not doing well in school.

He then assured people in all affected districts that if the act is superstitious in nature it will be dealt with by chiefs.

According to Paramount Ngolongoliwa, chiefs in all the affected districts cannot tolerate the evil act and anyone who will be caught red handed will be dealt with.

Speaking at the same function, President Peter Mutharika assured people that security has been tightened in the area to make sure that they are safe.

Mutharika said the situation is indeed worrisome and police officers have been deployed in all the affected districts to curb the malpractice.

Mutharika urged school going students to continue with their studies saying nothing bad will happen to them.

During the event, some Mulanje residents disclosed how the situation has affected them.
