Tuesday night brought revelations on David Banda’s nation preference in as far as football is concerned, as the global soccer tournament Fifa World Cup beckons.

The 11 year old cheered Portugal in their last World Cup qualifier at home against Switzerland, in the company of his mother.

It was another exciting moment for the mother and son as they celebrated Portugal’s 2 nil victory, a result that secured the European country a place at the 2018 World Cup to be staged in Russia.

With scarfs that bear Portugal’s colours wrapped around their necks, the two proved they were not there as mere spectators, but proud supporters. Currently residing in Lisbon, Portugal, they were indeed at home.

Madonna shared the happy moment with her millions of followers on Instagram. She posted a picture that exposes David with her in the stadium.

David is signed to the Portuguese football giants Benfica’s youth academy. His move to Lisbon in the summer forced his foster mother to relocate to the Portuguese capital in support of him.

The Malawian boy impressed Benfica with his skills when he trained with the side early this year.

His wonderful performance kept his chances of having a permanent deal with the academy, alive.

The question that bombards Malawians remains, is David Banda the future for Malawi national football team, the Flames or the nation should forget?

  1. Does he have 2 passports or just 1? If we are to allow dual citizens then malawi malawi change for the better, ,

  2. My take, as long as he still bears the name BANDA at the end of his names I think he will be required to put Malawi on the map.
With our ranking which is not yet to the eye of big teams, I think DAVID will help
