The law that he was supposed to enforce was not enough to deter his evil thoughts.

A police officer in-charge in Mangochi raped a 14-year-old girl who was placed under police custody for absconding classes.

Rape MalawiMalombe Police Post Officer In-Charge (OC) Sub Inspector Joseph Nkachilika is suspected to have raped the girl on Friday at Group Village Headman Likulungwa in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi.

The girl has since recorded a police statement on the matter but the police chief is yet to be arrested.

According to Malawi News Agency (Mana), girls who were not attending classes in the area were taken to Malombe Police Post to spend the night so that they should “be encouraged to stay in school.”

During the night, the OC called the girl in question from the rest of her friends and lied that her parents had brought her some food.

He then took the girl to his house where he gave her a soft drink and forced himself on her.

After she was released, the girl told her parents about the sexual abuse and later the matter was reported to Malombe Police Post where officers recorded a police statement.

Tests at Malombe Health Centre confirmed that the girl had been raped.

Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Amina Daudi expressed ignorance on the matter saying her office had not been furnished with any information.

However, Traditional Authority (TA) Chowe told Mana that police are investigating the matter.

The chief described the incident as very unfortunate saying authorities who are supposed to uphold and protect the rights of the girl child are the ones sexually abusing girls.

He promised to make sure that justice is delivered on the issue.
