Motorcyclist dies in road accident

A 50-year old motorcyclist died while his passenger suffered injuries after their motorbike veered off the road in Dowa.

This is according to Dowa police publicist Richard Kaponda who identified the deceased as Jasten Makhalanzi. Dowa

Kaponda said the accident occurred on the morning of October 8 at Malata Village in Traditional Authority Msakambewa, alongside Lumbadzi Dowa Boma road.

The publicist further said the rider who was using a motorcycle that was unregistered was coming from the direction of Dowa turnoff going towards Dowa Boma with a pillion passenger.

It is reported that upon arrival at Malata Village, he lost control of the motorcycle as he was negotiating a sharp curve and this made it to swerve to the far right side where it hit a road embankment.

Due to the impact, the rider sustained severe head injuries since he did not put on a crash helmet.

He later died as he was receiving treatment at Dowa District Hospital.

Post-mortem conducted at Dowa District Hospital indicated that the motorcyclist’s death was due to head injuries and loss of blood.

The passenger sustained minor injuries while the motorcycle got extensively damaged.

Police have since advised motorcycle riders to put on a crash helmet when they are travelling using a motorcycle.

The deceased hailed from Kalumba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa district.
