Police in Machinga district have arrested a man aged 40 suspected to have killed his brother Peter Mathias aged 45 who attempted to rape his wife.
The suspect, Francis Mathias, is reported to have beaten his brother to death when he caught him trying to rape his (Mathias’) wife at Mposa area in the district.
Confirming the reports, Machinga Police spokesperson Davie Sulumba said the suspect hit his brother with a sharp object.
“During the night of October 9, the suspect caught him trying to rape his wife. He started fighting the brother and he hit him with a sharp object,” said Sulumba.
Peter was taken to Namasalima Health Center where he was pronounced dead. Postmortem revealed death is due to severe loss of blood following a deep cut on forehead.
The suspect is yet to appear in court to answer charge of murder contrary to section 209 of the country’s penal code.
The two are from Chinthenga Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Nsanama in Machinga district.
