Eight people have died with others sustaining serious injuries after one of the tyres of the minibus they were traveling in burst in Karonga district.
According to the Police, the tyre of minibus with registration number CP 9379 got burst near Hara in Karonga.
Confirming the reports, Karonga police deputy spokesperson constable George Mulewa said they have identified four people who have died to be Labson Silumba, John Mdula, Sonia Tchongwe and Endesi Gama.
“Three passengers died on the spot while the other five died on the way to the hospital. Four are male and the other four are female,” said Mulewa.
Postmortem revealed that they died due to serious head and internal body injuries.
Police have since appealed to the drivers not to overspeed as a way of preventing accidents on the roads.
