A 36-year-old man hanged himself on Sunday after a fight with his wife.

According to public relations officer for Mzuzu police Martin Bwanali, the man Thokozani Phiri who was a tobacco tenant killed himself on Sunday at Nthuwuluke Village, Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.

“It is alleged that for the past month the deceased had been accusing his wife of having a love affair with another man,” said Bwanali.

On Saturday, Phiri had a quarrel with his wife over her behaviour and the matter was resolved by his employer.

However on Sunday, he was found hanging dead from a mango tree outside his house.

Police suspect no foul play and results of post-mortem examinations have indicated that death was due to suffocation.

Thokozani Phiri hailed from Chiwoko Village, Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe District.

Police have since called on people in the country to find better ways of handling marital issues other than resorting to committing suicide.
