Be Forward Wanderers vs Silver Strikers

Silver Strikers have rebuffed Be Forward Wanderers’ request to shift their Tnm Super League match to the Bingu National Stadium (BNS).

Wanderers had made the request with an eye on maximising revenue, basing on their two previous meetings with Silver at the BNS which grossed over MK50 million kwacha each.

But their advances have hit a snag as the home side has insisted that Saturday’s second round league affair will be hosted at their traditional home venue, Silver Stadium in Area 47.

The club’s general secretary Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda confirmed the matter in an interview with Malawi 24.

“Indeed Wanderers requested for change of venue for financial reasons as the BNS has in our two previous meetings proved to attract a large crowd, but management has decided against the idea. With excellent management that we have here, we believe we can also maximise revenue,” said Nyirenda.

“Further to that we need to respect our sponsors. Currently they have plans to improve the condition of the stadium, what message shall we be sending out to them if we shun our own home for the BNS.”

Wanderers hosted Silver at the BNS in August in the first round of the Super League where ticket fraud made headlines.

But the Silver general secretary said there will not be a repeat of such a scenario this Saturday.

“Experience is the best teacher. We learnt the lessons from the scam in August, so this time around we have sealed all loopholes in conjunction with Sulom to ensure that nothing fraudulent happens again,” he said.

Meanwhile, Benson Mofolo who was arrested in connection with the mentioned ticket scam is expected to appear in court next week, on October 9.
