Premier Bet Wizards on Wednesday said goodbye to Fisd Cup after losing 3-0 to Mzuni at Mzuzu Stadium.

Mzuni opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the first half through Lazarus Deco Nyemera. The hosts earned a freekick after Wizards goalkeeper Fletcher Jamali fouled Gift Kasambara just outside the 18 yard.

Nyemera scored from the resulting freekick to give the students the lead.

Five minutes before end of the first half Mzuni scored another goal through Timothy Sulwimba.  Wizards defenders failed to clear the ball after it had hit post, giving Sulwimba the chance to score and make it 2-0.

In the second half, Wizards dominated but the students managed to extend their lead after Sulwimba scored his second of the match.

The game ended 3-0 to Mzuni and it is the first cup win for the students this season.

Assistant coach for Mzuni said the win is important for the Mzuzu based side.

“We are happy for the win since. This is our first time to win in cup games this season. Wizards is a good side so we made sure to use all tactics in order to win.

“We put some players on the bench knowing that we are going to meet them (Wizards) again in three days coming this time in Super League encounter so we don’t want to use all players,” said Kadzuwa.

The defeat means Wizards have failed to win in their last 11 games.

The clubs goalkeeper trainer Simeon Kapuza said the loss is a blessing in disguise as it would allow them to focus on maintaining their Super League status.

“We are focusing much on league games. We came with a few players as most of them are not feeling well,” he said.

Kapuza added that people should expect the team to survive relegation in the top flight league this season.

Premier Bet Wizards and Mzuni will meet again this coming Saturday in the top flight league of Malawi at Mulanje Park Stadium.
