…Mzuni, Holy Cross also into next round…
Last year’s Fisd Cup runners up Kamuzu Barracks bounced back in style from last week’s TNM Super League defeat to Nyasa Big Bullets by thumping struggling Blantyre United 3-nil to progress to the competition’s national phase.
Spikile Fumulani scored a cracker just 4 minutes into the match when the hosts’ defence was caught napping in the line of duty.
The home side then upped their game through Curthbert Sinetre, Tony Mbulu and Jide Mbandambanda but KB’s defence was too stubborn to unlock.
The visitors then made it 2-nil just before the interval through Manaseh Chiyesa with another thunderbolt to beat Christopher Mikuwa in goals for the rookies.
Blantyre United almost responded in style when Victor Nyirenda exchanged brilliant passes with Tony Mbulu only to see the former Mafco FC player firing his shot wide off Lemani Nthala’s goal mouth.
Come second half, Mbandambanda was substituted for Brown Mizeyi while KB brought in Kelvin Hanganda for Zinjani Yona.
However, the visitors suffered a massive blow when their first scorer was shown a straight red card for stamping on Mizeyi.
Despite the shortfall, Hanganda hammered a final nail into Blantyre United’s coffin when he scored a powerful header from a corner by Diouf Simaone.
The hosts tried their level best to reduce the arrears but it was too little too late as the Lilongwe based Soldiers progressed through to the national phase.
At Balaka Stadium, Masters Security FC welcomed their new bus in style when they hammered Red Lions 3-1 to make it to another round.
A brace from Juma Yatina and the other goal by Patience Kalumo ensured victory for Alfred Gangata’s side.
And at Mzuzu Stadium, Mzuni FC smashed Premier Bet Wizards 3-nil to book themselves a place in the next round.
In another match, Holy Cross Ambassadors were too good for Dedza Young Soccer as they claimed a 2-nil victory to also progress to the national level.
