…win four out of five games at Cosafa Cup Youth Championship

The Junior Flames recorded a 2-1 victory over South Africa to finish third and eventually win Bronze medal at the just ended Under 17 Cosafa Cup Youth Championship in Mauritius.

Alex Tsamba scored in each half to see Dekrek Msakakuona’s boys finish third position for the second time in a row.

Tsamba opened his goal account on 27th minute with a powerful shot that left South Africa’s goalkeeper with no chance at all to put the Junior Flames in the lead.

The Junior Flames dominated the proceedings in the half but were very unfortunate not to add more goals on the score sheet as South Africa’s goalkeeper made some stunning saves to keep his side into the game.

Come second half, it only took five minutes for Malawi to increase their lead with another brilliant goal from Tsamba when South Africa’s defence was caught napping in the line of duty, 2-0.

Msakakuona’s boys were coming wave after wave in the match, giving their opponents no chance of penetrating.

However, South Africa pulled one back in the 67th minute from the spot through Nare whose penalty kick kissed the back of the net.

The goal brought some rhythm into South Africa’s team but it was too little too late as Malawi held on to claim their Bronze medal for the second time in a row.

Auspicious Kadzongola was named man of the match for the second time at the tournament and Malawi’s fifth in total.

The Junior Flames produced a man of the match in all their five games at the tournament.

They also won four of their five games and the only defeat they suffered was a 2-nil loss to Zambia in the semifinals of the competition.

They scored 11 goals and conceded only three.
