…new season to kick-off next week, gate charges to be introduced
Southern Region Netball League sponsors Rainbow Paints, have increased their sponsorship package from K4 million to K6.7 million this season.
The sponsors made the announcement on Thursday morning during the launch of the new season which will kick start next week in Blantyre.
Rainbow Paints Sales Representative Jangale Chiosa said her company decided to increase the sponsorship as part of Corporate Social responsibility.
“As a corporate citizen, we thought it wise to appreciate the support being rendered to our company by companies and individuals by increasing the sponsorship package from K4 million to K6.7 million.
“We are also encouraged with the way our Malawi National Netball Team has been performing at the international level and considering that almost 75 percent of the players playing for the national team comes from Southern Region hence coming back for the fifth time,” she explained.
On his part, Vice Chairperson for the Southern Region Netball Association Chimwemwe Bakali hailed Rainbow Paints for the continuous financial support being rendered to the association.
“We are very excited to Rainbow Paints for this support. This is not just a sponsorship, we want our sponsors to benefit as such, we are working on a strategic plan in order to depart from sponsorship to partnership because we want to add value to the sponsors’ products that are on the market. We want to introduce gate collections from our games in order to improve the game by using our own money,” he said.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Khungikire Matiya said her body is very excited with the gesture.
“We are very excited with this sponsorship increment from Rainbow Paints because Southern Region Netball League contributes players to the national team and this means that the continuation of our national netball team is ongoing and it’s an assurance that we will have good players for the national team.
“We are advising SRNA to safeguard this sponsorship by being transparent and they must also make sure to see sponsors benefit from this agreement because this is not just a mere sponsorship but rather a partnership,” she explained.
The increment will see winners walking away with K1 million, with the runners up being consoled with K500 000.
Kukoma Diamonds are the current defending champions of the league.
Ten teams are expected to take part in the new season.
