Chiradzulu is looking to become the main supplier of athletes for different sporting disciplines in the country as the district has been congested with competitions aimed at promoting sports.

Currently, the district has over three leagues that are being funded by politicians, a development which has impressed the District’s Sports Officer (DSO) Patrick Mulinga.

Mulinga told Malawi24 in an interview that such tournaments will help in identifying hidden talent that is in the district.

He added that young people will also be busy instead of indulging themselves in immoral behaviour which can destruct their future.

“These will help us to identify the talent which would just die if such leagues weren’t here and that they will help in sexual reproductive health as many athletes will be busy with the leagues therefore refraining from immoral behaviours,” he said.

The DSO added that his office will work with anyone whose intention is to develop sports so as to put the district on the map in terms of sports and help some athletes to reach their desired destinations of their respective careers.

“We will work hand in hand with them (sponsors) so that we should develop the sports in this district,” added Mulinga.

Presently, teams from North East constituency whose legislator is Willet Karonga are battling for the championship of the 14 team Khasu M’manja league which is worth Mk1.5 Million and each team was given a ball as a starter pack before the kickoff of the race three weeks ago.

In the meantime, councillors for the wards of Nangulukutiche in the north and Mombezi in the central Deverson Manuel Maolera and Amon Samu respectively are also having mini tournaments in their areas which they say are targeting youths.
