…Silver makes it two out of two

Be Forward Wanderers tightened their grip on the Super League title race and delivered a blow to all the contenders with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Blue Eagles at Balaka Stadium.

Coming from another hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chitipa United on Saturday, the Nomads meant business as they scored the only goal just after eight minutes to extend their lead at the top to seven points ahead of second placed Moyale Barracks with four games to go before the end of the first round.

Precious Msosa gave the Blues the lead when he capitalized on a defensive commotion inside Eagles’ backline before Alfred Manyozo’s second half penalty miss following a handball by the visitor’s defender.

The Blues once more looked the model of efficiency – although they conceded more chances than Yasin Osman would have liked – with Joseph Kamwendo a tireless midfield influence.

Despite Eagles’ stubbornness at the back, the league leaders broke the deadlock when Kamwendo’s free kick caught the visitors’ defence napping in the line of duty, allowing Msosa to make an easy finish past John Soko in goals for the Area 30 based side.

Come second half, Wanderers were more defensive than their counterparts as they opted to sit back in order to defend their slender lead.

Eagles’ Micium Mhone was very level as he made several shots at Richard Chipuwa in goals for the hosts but he was very unfortunate not to find the much needed equalizing goal.

At the other end of the field, Jafali Chande almost doubled Wanderers’ lead but his solo effort went agonizingly wide much to the disappointment of the home fans.

With less than four minutes to play, Wanderers won a penalty when an Eagles defender was judged to have handled the ball inside the penalty box.

Manyozo, who was handed the responsibility to put the ball into the net, saw his spot kick well saved by Soko.

The penalty miss was Wanderers’ third in a row within two weeks, with Kamwendo missing two penalties against Red Lions and Masters Security respectively.

Nevertheless, the Nomads were able to collect maximum points that have taken their tally to 28 points from eleven games, seven ahead of Moyale and ten ahead of their bitter rivals Nyasa Big Bullets.

As for Eagles, the defeat sees them dropping to 6th position with 17 points from twelve games played so far.

At Civo Stadium, Silver Strikers made it two out of two when they defeated Red Lions 2-1 to move up to third position with 20 points.

After scoring a brace on Saturday against Mafco FC, Mathews Sibale continued his brilliant form with another brace which has taken his side in the top three for the first time this season with a game less than the league leaders.

The defeat leaves Red Lions on 7th position with 15 points from eleven games.

  3. The problem with some mad supporters who do not follow soccer with remorse usually use history in football. EPL should give you a lesson, Chelsea moved from their previous tenth position in 2015/16 season to first position in 2016/17 season. Football nowadys does not rely on who have more supporters but what God has planned that year. Chelsea lost to Arsernal and kept on winning up to the end maintaining a gap of 8 points and won the league, a thing that can happen also to Noma. So Neba musazitenge ngati ndinu nokha odziwa mpira pa Malawi pano….., matimu akusewera mpiratu pano, look at Bet wizards, Bt united, Silver, and others. Let us support our teams in a civilized manner, period……….!

  4. Mtunda ndiosayamba koma zizindikilo zofuna kukhala champion ndizomwe ukuonetsa Nebazi grabbing 6 points it’s not easy koma BULLETS iwonesetsa kuti usatenge league
