Man nabbed for trafficking chamba


Police in Machinga district are keeping in custody a 30-year-old man who was caught trafficking cannabis sativa.

This is according to Machinga police publicist Constable Davie Sulumba who confirmed the development to Malawi24 and has since identified the suspect as Mphatso Mlozolo.

Constable Sulumba said on Sunday Police officers were on checkpoint at Machinga police roadblock.

He said in the course of their duty, a minibus heading to Limbe from Mangochi arrived at the roadblock and after checking in it they found two traveling bags which were under the seat of Mlozolo.

Police later opened the bags and discovered 8 packs of cannabis sativa weighing 5 kilograms each.

According to the driver of the minibus, the suspect boarded the minibus at Ulongwe trading centre.

The Cannabis sativa was seized pending to be taken to Bvumbwe Research Station for examination.
Mlozolo hails from Mbapi village, in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi District.
