Cyclist killed in road accident

A 69-year-old male cyclist died on Thursday after being involved in a road accident at Kayeleka village in Nkhotakota district.

Nkhunga Police Station spokesperson Laban Makalani has identified the deceased as Lingson Hegwell.

He said the accident involved a Pick Up registration number MJ 5411, which was being driven by Stambuli Sakala.

“The car was travelling from Nkhotakota boma heading to Dwangwa. Upon reaching at Kayeleka village near Dwangwa Cane Growers Limited it hit a pedal cyclist who was cycling towards the same direction,” Makalani said.

Due to the impact, the cyclist sustained severe injuries and he died before he could receive treatment at Matiki Health Centre.

The deceased hailed from Lobi village, Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza.
