A rampant Junior Flames extended their lead at the top in the ongoing Cosafa Cup Youth Championship in Mauritius with a 5-nil mauling of Zimbabwe in group A to book themselves a place in the semifinals of the competition with a game to play.

The Malawi under 17 National team meant business as they broke the deadlock just after 14 minutes through Franklin Titani following brilliant move which started in the middle of the park.

Deklerk Msakakuona’s boys were very hungry for goals as they attacked like vicious snakes from all cylinders no wonder their opponents kept on chasing their own shadows in the entire match.

With three minutes to play, the Junior Flames doubled their tally through Chinsinsi Maonga whose shot was just too much for Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper, 2-nil.

Come second half, it only took two minutes for the Junior Flames to put the match beyond Zimbabwe’s reach with another fantastic goal.

Maonga turned from a scorer to a provider when his through ball inside the penalty box found Chikondi Mbeta who mad no mistake by putting the ball into the back of the net.

The group A leaders kept on pushing for more goals but Zimbabwe’s keeper made some stunning saves to deny the Junior Flames from adding more goals.

On 62 minutes, the match was 4-nil. Maonga was on score sheet again with a fantastic goal following another brilliant move from the wings which caught their opponents’ defence napping.

Just when everybody thought the margin was enough, Patrick Mwaughulu added salt to the wound when he smashed a powerful shot past Zimbabwean goalkeeper into the back of the net to end the match 5-nil in favor of Malawi.

The result takes Junior Flames’ goal tally to seven following their opening 2-nil victory over Botswana on Saturday.

Malawi is now topping the standings with 6 points with a game to play before wrapping up the group stages and they are the favorites to finish as the group winners ahead of the host nation Mauritius who will play Botswana in their second game.

Maonga was named man of the match following his brilliant display which saw him scoring two goals and providing an assist to Mbeta for the second goal.

  5. I remember in a certain year; Malawi under 17 qualified for the world cup.We had the likes of Andrew Simkonda; Limbikani Mzava and other s.You will observe that most of these players have just vanished. What I want to say is we lack a system which can help players to be carried over to the next age limit. We have this good under 17; in three years time; let them play for under 20 thereafter under 23 then senior national team

  6. Bola ndi zigoli.zed ilikonko!!! Ndiye alimbikiletu anawa kapena nkutheka kukumana ndi junior chipolopolo!!!kkkkk tikuyembekezani a the flames amoto.

  7. Congrats the Young Flames, iyi ndiye yake. But hey, avoid at all cost meeting the jr chipolopolo boys during the own going tournament. Otherwise you’ll regret meeting your sister country Zambia.

    1. BRO REMIND THE NEIGHBORS THAT WE ATE THE BANANAS IF WE MEET MALAWI THE FLAME WE WIL DO DE SAME BY PUTTING IT OFF NICE DEAR.,MORNING.

    2. Hahahahaha, neighbour don’t be carried away by history.Be reminded that the past is for us to learn from & the future to change. As things look here,I have no doubt that our histories will soon be rewritten in as far as football is concerned beginning with our Junior sides at this tournament believe you me kkkkkkk.

    3. It’s today or never. Don’t endeavour in pretending that young Chipolopolo isn’t playing your young flames in an on going cosafa. TODAY.

  8. Ana amenewo they deserve to even represent Malawi at senior level it’s high time we started crying foul for our senior national team.

  9. Time will come where by this team will not be followed, Malawi is not good to build team from grassroots, Ghana national team is the one that won world cup under 20 in 2008 if not mistaken

    1. If Malawi win their group then they won’t meet Zambia in Semis maybe in the finals if they can go through but it would be better meeting Zambia and avenge last years defeat

    2. The young Chipolopolo is on fire, they gave already scored 10 goals in two games, winning 7-0 in their opening game and beating south Africa by 3 yesterday

    3. Zambia might have scored 10 and Malawi 7 but if these two can meet it would definitely be another different ball game.

    4. Do u know that the flames of Malawi has never beaten Zambia at any level? Be it a draft, basketball, or horse and car racing. Maybe netball but not soccer for women again. Anyway I wish the Young flames all the best so that they meet junior Chipolopolo in the final, then we teach them a football lesson

    5. Carter C Hendrix Clepa hahaha,i love your sacarsm, Flames of Malawi is the only team in southen africa that has beaten Zambia more than any other team in southern africa including south africa, never mind it was small tournaments like East and Central Challenge Cup but we cherish that anyway
