Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has promised that it will train more local umpires who will help in development of the game of netball from grassroots.

This was disclosed during the training for umpires in Phalombe district which was organised by the District’s Sports Officer (DSO) Edward Malumero in collaboration with Malawi School Sports Association (MASSA).

NAM Instructor White Mulilima said his association will select some of the people that attended the three day training to be trained as trainers.

“We will pick some of these candidates so that they should be trained for them to be training their fellow colleagues since NAM instructors can’t train everyone,” he Malawi24 quoted Mulilima.

The Instructor added by urging those that attended the training to share the knowledge with their friends.

“Your friends should benefit from what you have learnt here so that Phalombe should be put on the map in matters of netball,” he added.

On his part, MASSA chairperson in the district MacLaws Chisale said they thought it wise to call for such a training so as to equip sports masters from different primary and secondary schools with knowledge of netball rules.

In the meantime, Malumero has pledged support for all sporting disciplines in the district and he has revealed plans to conduct preparatory courses for football coaches in the next three weeks.

“After this training, if all goes well we will have another one but that one will be for the football department,” Malumero said.

The umpiring course training was run from 18th to 20th July and most of the participants were teachers. Participants who will pass will get certificates from the netball governing body.
