Manufacturers of spirituous liquor locally known as Midori have recalled liquor from distributors and retailers following stiff warning by Malawi Bureau Standards (MBS) on the production of the liquor.

Disclosing the development, the companies said they are to refund all those that have the liquor in stock arguing the liquor is being recalled as the law forbids selling liquor in plastic bottles.

Among the companies include, Global Beverage which produces Boss Whisky, Flames Rum, Zero Gin, Blank Ponda Rum and Tyson Cane spirit.

Shooter Premium, Vodka, Empire cane spirit and Chilwa manufactured by Chilwa Investment are also being recalled from the market.

Atinga Limited which produces Splash, Three kings and Galaxy and Ceyone Investment which manufactures Rio Gin are among companies asking distributors to return their products.

The liquor from the companies will remain suspended until the manufacturers obtain pre-production approval from MBS.

MBS spoke tough on production of spirits and packaging the liquor in plastic bottles arguing the practice is against Malawi Standard 210.

This came after MBS had banned packaging of liquor in sachets.
