The Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) has asked government and other well-wishers to continue supporting schools which offer education to children who are visually impaired.

The call was made on Tuesday by MUB program officer Ratimu Matenje at Montfort Demonstration School where Campaign for Health, Education, Sanitation and Hygiene (CHESH) donated bibles to students and K100,000 to the school.

Speaking at the event, Matenje commended the organisation for the support saying it came in time.

He said what CHESH did cannot be taken for granted because the children know that there are people who care for them.

“We cannot express how grateful we are with resources and we do not take it for granted because deep down in my heart l know what l am saying, the Bibles will help the students in their   spiritual and daily lives,” he explained.

He went on to say that children who are visually impaired and those with other with disabilities are like any child who need better education and learning materials.

He therefore asked for support saying the resources which the organisation has are not enough to the students.

Matenje said donors stopped providing funding to the institution in 2000.

CHESH executive director MacDonald Kaluwa said they decided to provide the donation to students as a way of encouraging them to keep working hard.
