A mob in Limbe has killed a man who masqueraded as a prostitute to rob people.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Limbe police Widson Nhlane, the man who is yet to be identified was pretending to be a prostitute with the intention of robbing men of their phones and cash.
He said the incident that led to the man’s death took place on Monday night near a bar in Bangwe Township.
“It is alleged that he used to dress like a lady at night so that when men approached him, he could easily rob them and on this night when he met his fate, he wore a black skirt, white bra and a blouse,” said Nhlane.
According to Nhlane, a man approached the prostitute and later they went to a resthouse.
While there, the thief robbed the unsuspecting client of his cellphone plus cash and when the client shouted for help a mob descended on the thief.
After beating the thief, they undressed him and discovered that he is male.
Nhlane further said police rushed to the scene and rescued the thief but he died before receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Currently, the body is at the hospital’s mortuary pending identification and postmortem
