Sana Cash and Carry has donated various foodstuffs to Bingu National Stadium (BNS) stampede victims who are admitted at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.

The donation was made when Lilongwe City Council (LCC) Mayor Desmond Bikoko and Deputy Mayor Juliana Kaduya visited the victims.

Speaking with this publication, LLC Public Relations Officer Tamara Chafunya said Sana Cash and Carry were the first to respond to the council’s plea.

“Sana Cash and Carry were the first to join forces with LCC by donating foodstuffs worth K200,000 and these were distributed during the visit,” she said.

The items included orange squash, sugar, washing and bathing soap and Likuni phala.

LCC has said all who pledged for aid and assistance should do that through the office of his worship Lilongwe city mayor Desmond Bikoko.

Eight people, 7 of whom were children, died during stampede at BNS when they were pressing to enter the stadium to watch a football match between Big Bullets and Silver Strikers as part of 53rd Independence celebrations.

Over 40 people were wounded and currently they are undergoing medical treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

President Peter Mutharika also visited the victims and asked authorities to make sure that such a tragedy must never happen again in the country.
