Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi has urged Karonga District Executive Committee (DEC) members to serve government with patriotism, integrity and a hardworking spirit.

Dausi said this when he was on tour to sensitize DEC members in the northern districts of Malawi on the recently enacted Access to Information (ATI) Act, Communications Act and Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act.

Dausi calls for patriotism.

The minister said there is need to be transparent and accountable.

“We came here (Karonga) to tell DEC member to be transparent and disclose everything because they serve people.

“People should be able to know and follow the development the council is doing,” Dausi added

Dausi said lazy and non-committed civil servants always tarnish the image of government and has since called on DEC members with such attitude to change their mindset.

“Civil servants have an obligation to serve government with patriotism, integrity and hardworking spirit towards the development of this country,” he said.

On his part, Karonga District Commissioner (DC) Richard Hara said enactment of Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Acts would reduce cases of corruption among people.

  1. YES, INDEED, THIS IS THE HON. DAUSI, WHOM I KNEW IN THE PAST YEARS! A MAN OF INTERGRITY, PATRIOTISM & A MAN OF HIS OWN CARTERGOLICAL INTELLIGENCE: THIS IS HOW THINGS SHOULD B IN A DEMOCRATIC MALAWI! TO CIVIC-EDUCATE,RE-MIND THE PEOPLE WHAT TO KNOW & DO!! NOT CASTIGATION,DEFAMATION,SELF-PRAISING,NEPOTISM,TRIBALISTIC,REGIONALISM–NO NOT ALL! WE CAN NOT BUILD MALAWI BASED ON SUCH CHARACTERISTIC IDEOLOGIES: BUT UNITY,LAYALITY,LOVE & INDEED DISCIPLINE!! TOGETHER LET US UP-ROOT CORRUPTION WHICH WAS EVEN MENTIONED BY THE AMERICAN AMBASSODOR DURING THE AMERICAN CELLEBRATIONS & THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO MALAWI: LET’S NOT BURY OUR HEADS IN THE SAND! INDEED REGIONAL HATRED & FINGER-POINTING SHOULD B STOPPED COMPLETELY IN MALAWI!!!

  2. The DC says “it will help to reduce corruption among people”, this sounds lame somehow. The aim should not be reducing corruption, but ending it.

Haibo! Do we benefit from corruption that we should just reduce it?

  3. Majority of Malawians shall only practice patriotism when all citizens shall be treated as equals and when a ruling party shall stop practicing open favouritism and nepotism in favour of one tribe. For the moment let those enjoying the spoils be patriotic.

  4. They are good at urging others to be patriotic, Integrity and hardworking yet them are not like this, let them start doing what they say to others before those told to do so do

  5. Muyambe ndinu ndi Mr Ibu transparency’yo. osamangokankhira ang’onoang’ono ayi.
