The  department of immigration and citizenship services in Malawi has warned the general public over fraudsters who are stealing from people after promising them jobs at the department.

The department’s spokesperson Joseph Chauwa said the Immigration Department which also falls under the ministry of home affairs and internal security has noticed that some people are duping Malawians.

“We are very disappointed to know that some people are claiming that they work for immigration and cheating the applicants who applied for immigration assistant post to give them money in order to be employed,” he explained.

He said the Immigration Department has not hired anyone to assist the applicants in any way.

Chauwa warned that anyone caught stealing money from the applicants will face the long arm of the law.

He added that police investigations are underway to find the suspects.
