Having used players of an average age of 22 at Cosafa Castle Cup in South Africa, Flames head coach Ronny Van Geneudgen says he is very confident of producing wonders as the players are young and can improve and adapt to his style of play with time.

Speaking during a press briefing at Mpira Village in Chiwembe on Wednesday morning, the Belgian tactician defended his tactics and players despite not finding the back of the net in all the three matches they played during the tourney to exit the competition at group stages.

”I used an average age of 22 at the tournament and it’s easy for the players to adapt to my philosophy of play because they are young and they can improve with time,” he said.

He also defended his backroom staff saying every person in the technical panel has Malawi at heart.

“My technical panel has people who have Malawi at heart. They played for the team before retiring and they were very committed hence including them in my panel.

“These coaches are very helpful and it’s easy for me to work with them because they are very corporative and very understanding,” he explained.

He then asked Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to make sure to organize friendly matches on every FIFA calendar so that local and professional players can gel together in preparations for the ongoing 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cameroon, Comoros Island and Morocco.

Dalitso Sailesi, Dennis Chembezi, Peter Cholopi, Levison Maganizo and Francis Mulimbika are some of the players that were used at the tourney with an average age of 22.

  1. FAM why do we need Mzungu and yet you wanted to withdraw from participating in AFCON.
You said you have no money.
This Mzungu will reap you all the money you got from government but no results.
Believe me this Mzungu is not experienced.
Let’s promote our local coach’s our players will enjoy our local language.
    Chizungu ndichipyinjo.

  5. Simple and straight forward, our players are just average and looking at the way we have started playing, I have the hope that they are improving slowly. Most players were not comfortable with the ball before now it looks much better.

  6. A Word to Mr Van The Coach Of The National Team Flames, It Is Very Encouraging The Way you have started the task.Malawians Should Learn to have appreciating spirit even to the small good things that one does. keep it up,study the team and move together with our desiring spirits.

  8. The coach is full of lies he just need money not to build good team never ngati alephera kufika finals ya cosafa what about Afcon lol shame on RVG

  9. Thats true the gys were good zimavuta ndikutsogolo! We needed good finishers.. Give him tym smting good will come out!

  10. Mr RVG when you see the birth date of a player on his passport, add 10 years more, that’s his real age, kikikiikiiii!! Players in Malawi, not only players even some civil servants file, the birth date is always tampered with to appear young, so that uzafele pantchito. Pensioners suffer financially here due to poor pension money, so people try ways of continueing service regardless of old age including players.

  11. That is the problem malawians have always looking for quick fix give a guy a chance to watch different games in all corners of the country, and you must understand that national team is a combination of players from different clubs under different coaches and learning different tactics, so for the player’s to adapt under new coach its gonna need time no short cuts period

    1. I do really get your point mr Daniel Tomoka but it takes time to settle in, for example a child is born today you can’t expect to walk the following day just give him time hopefully he will surprise you in the long run

  12. …does this means u went to Cosafa not to win but to experiment your so called 22 years old players?…i think this excuse is not applicable Mr RVG

    1. Almost every country experiment with their squads at COSAFA my friend. We never used to before for fear of losing, though were losing anyway, this time we chose to experiment and it has helped big time. I never new Ian Chinyama was that good. Now tell me what is wrong with experimenting?

  13. The solution of our team rests in Malawian coaches. Just a change in mindset on the selection of players will do great wonders. Zoti ndi mwana kaya ndi wamkulu nzopanda phindu. All we need are good results kaya azimenya a above 30 years bola tiziwina. Select players based on performance not age

  14. hahahahhhaaa Lanjesi is 34, kakhobwe is 31, mlimbika is 33, linje 30, Bokosi nde ndaphunzira nae pa zomba police sec xul tinalemba maeso a 4 n 2008, non of ur squad is below 25 mr RVG, stop cheating urself malawian players they dont grow old, bt their national team career ends when u stop picking them!

  15. Wake up FAM his style of play is totally different to ours go for a local Kinna Phiri perfomed much better than all white coaches u have employed b4

  16. I think we are not concerned with the ages of the players, all what we want as Malawians is the results from the national team that’s all.

  17. Gilbert chirwa, maduka, lawlence waya, mabedi, mponda, wilfred nyalugwe, young chimodzi, etc played better and won despite their older ages, akufuna aname chani mzunguyu?angowatsiyira timuyo ma coach achimalawi iye akakwere ndege

    1. Simple even ones you said improved with time. His English is that they are young and they will improve with time and adopt his style of playing.

  18. Stop wasting your time mr Mzungu, our players doesn’t grow old, they will remain the same age you found em evn after 10 yearsyo frenz failed to build the so called dream team til they got tired then fired

  19. I’m just happy that some players cant speak english with other pple but do speak and understand rvg…. Ndi luso lina lapadera…

    1. he knws hw to speak English koma chabe amalawi timafuna kukhala ngat ozitsata by judging othrs , av seen Ben mc’carthy speaking English combined wth hz mother language bt nuh reporter or hz fellow south africans criticised hm
